A science session took place in the Senate of the Republic of Poland entitled: “A single unit against the totalitarian regimes – in the 60th anniversary of Rotamaster Witold Pilecki’s murder”. The session was hosted by Zbigniew Romaszewski – Republic of Poland Parliament’s Vice-Speaker, Janusz Kurtyka – President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Wojciech Myślecki – president of the Lower Silesian Historic Initiative and Stanisław Piotrowicz – the chairman of the Commission for Human Rights and Law and Order of the Senate of the Republic of Poland.
The session was divided into two thematic parts. The first one included the presentation of the website: www.pilecki.ipn.gov.pl, after which the historian of the Warsaw’s branch of the Institute – Jacek Pawłowicz presented the biography of Witold Pilecki up until the beginning of World War II. After that, dr. Adam Cyra from the National Museum in Auschwitz-Birkenau presented the extent of heroic activity of Rotamaster Pilecki in the years 1939 – 1945. This section was finished by professor Jan Wysocki from the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, who presented the circumstances in which Witold Pilecki was sentenced and consequently put to death in the years 1945 – 1948.
The second part was dedicated to “the Remembrance of Rotamster Witold Pilecki in the memory of Poles”. The panel discussion was led by the Vice Director of the Public Education Office of the IPN – dr. Łukasz Kamiński. The partakers were: Zbigniew Romaszewski, Wojciech Myślecki, Col. Jerzy Woźniak – Honorary President of the World Union of the Home Army Soldiers and Ryszard Bugajski – a director and author of the theatrical play made for the television about Rotamaster Pilecki.
